The Emmerly sweater will add a bit of grace to your wardrobe with its flattering ballet neck and gently flared, bracelet-length sleeves. There’s a teensy bit of flare to the lower body, too, for a forgiving profile.

The pattern has 9 sizes, with finished bust from 35 - 66”/ 87 - 165 cm and plenty of opportunities to customize, with specific instructions for each, so that even if you’ve never made a sweater for yourself before, you will be happy with how it fits. The pattern includes a section to help you choose which size to knit, and there are specific instructions that allow you to adjust:

• The amount of ease through the bust and underarm area
• The waist shaping: a little, a little more, or none at all
• The length of the torso
• The length of the sleeve, including instructions for a short-sleeved version

This pattern has been tech edited by @woolenthusiast and test knitted by 8 knitters of various sizes and knitting abilities.

Difficulty: Advanced beginner. This sweater is worked in the round from the top down.

Techniques/ stitches used: knit, purl, k2tog, yarn over, short rows (explained in the pattern!), make one stitches (also explained in the pattern!)

Size selection: Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4)(5, 6, 7)(8, 9) have finished bust of 35 (38.5, 43, 46.5)(51, 54.5, 59)(62.5, 66)“/ 87 (96, 107, 116)(127, 136, 147)(156, 165) cm
The sweater is intended to be worn with 4 - 8”/ 10 - 20 cm positive ease - that is, larger than your actual measurement. There are multiple places to customize the fit of the other parts of the sweater so if your bust size doesn’t exactly predict your other measurements (and whose does?!), you can still achieve a sweater with great fit starting with the bust size that makes sense for you.

Yarn: Fingering/ sock yarn
Jilly and Kiddles Fancy Sock was used for the sample in colorways “Tadpole” (main color) and “Into the Mystic” (contrast color).

Gauge: 22 stitches and 30 rows to 4”/ 10 cm in stockinette stitch before blocking

Estimated yardage/ meterage required:
Main color: Approximately 225 (250, 275, 300)(325, 350, 375)(400, 450) grams/ 1100 (1150, 1275, 1350)(1450, 1550, 1625)(1750, 1950) yards/ 1000 (1050, 1175, 1200)(1300, 1400, 1500)(1600, 1800) meters. If using Jilly and Kiddles yarn, you would need 3 (3, 3, 3)(4, 4, 4)(5, 5) skeins.
Contrast color: Approximately 50 (75, 75, 85)(85, 85, 85)(100, 100) grams/ 225 (250, 275, 300)(300, 325, 350)(375, 375) yards/ 200 (225, 250, 275)(275, 300, 325)(350, 350) meters. If using Jilly and Kiddles yarn, you would need one skein, regardless of size.

Needle size: US #7 / 4.5 mm and #6/4.0 mm, or size needed to achieve gauge plus one size smaller.
Type of needles: 16”/ 40 cm circular needles in both sizes for cast-on at neck and beginning of yoke; 24”/ 60 cm or 30”/ 75 cm circular in larger size for body of sweater; DPNs in both sizes for sleeves (or longer circular needles, if you prefer to use the Magic Loop method for working in the round).
