Emotional Support Fidget Spider
I have created a fun little black fidget spider whose legs all move when pulled from side to side or you can roll the beads on the end of the legs. The inspiration for this toy came with my autistic grands in mind and from a character of a wonderful children’s book titled “What’s Wrong with this Book?”. This book was written by my friend and author Rachel Hiltz/Frog Hooker. The world we live in can be overwhelming at times. So, I wanted to give my grands something that could help them through any situation and see that they are wonderful, unique and just as creative as anyone. Now I would like to offer it as a free download to help others that may need it.
This pattern is written in English using U.S. crochet terms and includes instructions with picture tutorials.
Skill level: Easy
Materials needed:
- Worsted weight yarn (medium 4)
- Black yarn (body and legs) (approx 60 yards)
- Blue yarn for the eyes (approx a 12” strand)
- White yarn for the eyes (approx a 12” strand)
-
- 25 mm G hook
- 2 mm hook or size that will fit through your bead easily
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends
- Scissors
- Stitch marker
- 8 black pony beads
- Stuffing (small amount)
- Small brush
Gauge is not important for this pattern. Just try to keep your stitches tight so that your stuffing doesn’t come through and your legs are free moving between the stitches. Your yarn type and hook size will affect the size and texture of your final piece.
Approx size of body is 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”
