Enchained Mitts
These cosy and warm mitts are made better with a chain wrist closure in a pretty accent colour.
Starting with a small provisional cast-on, these mitts are worked up from the wrist starting an I-cord edge and feature a thumb gusset and shaped hand. Two contrast I-cords are added to draw in the mitt at the wrist; they cleverly cross in four locations across the back of the hand to form the “chains” of the name.
The mitts can also be worked in fingering weight yarn held double - a great use for speckled or highly variegated yarns! Fingering weight yardage is 230-260-310 yds/210-240-285 m for the mitten and an additional 10 yds/9 m for the trim.
The 4mm needles stated above are used to knit the mitten. Choose needles suitable for working a small diameter in the round - double-pointed, two circulars or magic loop as you prefer.
To work the cords at the wrist, One set of 2.5mm/US 1.5 double pointed needles, 10cm/4 in length is strongly recommended. Working the cords is made considerably easier by using the shortest dpns you have available.
