At the risk of being hyperbolic, knitting this scarf does feel like working an enchantment of sorts. Between its unusual construction and addictive lacework pattern, it knits up like a kind of spell.

It felt appropriate to give the scarf a name worthy of it’s magical vibes, and so the Enchantment Scarf was born. Inspired by my love of all things fantasy and the enchantresses in my favorite books.

The Enchantment Scarf is knit in a tube, entirely in the round, so there is no wrong side and it is fully reversible. The work begins with Judy’s Magic Cast On, then increases are worked alongside the lace pattern to reach the width of the scarf, then the lace is worked without increases to the desired length before decreases are worked along with the lace and finally, the scarf is finished by grafting the stitches together with the Kitchener method.

Small: 7.5cm/3in wide x 91.5cm/36in.
Large: 13cm/5in wide x 154cm/61in.

The length of the scarf is customizable. To use up a quantity of yarn, first weigh your yarn, then complete the increases and weigh yarn again. Write down the difference. Continue with the body of the scarf until you have roughly the weight of the yarn you wrote down, plus 5-10 grams.

Gauge:
39 stitches x 38 rows per 10cm/4in on 2.75mm needles in stockinette, or size required to meet gauge.

Yarn:
250 meters/273 yards (500 meters/547 yards) of fingering weight yarn.
The blue sample scarf (size large) is knit in Knitting for Olive Merino in the shade Poppy Blue.

Needles:
2.75mm needles, or size required to meet gauge.
The pattern is written using the magic loop method and transitioning to 13cm/9in circular needles once the work becomes large enough.
