Have you ever watched a show like The Walking Dead or The 100, or a movie like Delicatessen and thought “wow, they make the end of the world look beautiful”? I love apocalypse fiction and it has long informed my aesthetic. I got to thinking, if this really were survival after society, we’d be making do with whatever we could; frogging any sweater that no longer worked to save the yarn, knitting from our stash. I wanted to design a sweater that would incorporate a wide variety of yarns while still working well without looking slap-dash. So here it is: It’s knit in panels, so that if your yarn is thicker or thinner in one section, the other sections will even that out. It has a collar that turns into a hood so that it’s flexible and warm for any night traveling. The collar is stretchy to wrap around any children you might be carrying. I used dark colors to stick with the theme, but use whatever you have in your stash, the brighter and louder the better. The pattern includes instructions for choosing and organizing your stash yarn, and is written in inches/cm rather than rows to adjust for differences.

Finished Sizes: This sweater features 1-2”/2.5-5cm positive ease, and an open front, so sizing is flexible

Yarn Requirements: Any worsted/Aran weight yarn, or a variety of yarns mixed together. Sock or fingering yarn can be doubled.

Small: 425g/935 yards for the body of the sweater and 300g/660 yards for the collar/hood.
Medium: 485g/1065 yards for the body of the sweater and 340g/750 yards for the collar/hood
Large: 550g/1210 yards for the body of the sweater and 385g/850 yards for the collar/hood
XL: 625g/1375 yards for the body of the sweater and 445g/980 yards for the collar/hood
2XL: 710g/1565 yards for the body of the sweater and 500g/1100 yards for the collar/hood
