Endometriosis Shawl
March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. This shawl is my response to living with endometriosis.
“Endometriosis Shawl” is a meditative knitting project for life’s tough days. I designed this shawl as an easy knit for hard days and a soft and comforting wrap for days when even knitting is too hard.
Sometimes when life is complicated and painful we need knitting that is comforting and predictable.
Knit top down in one piece, Endo Shawl is a simple project. Each section of the shawl is easily memorized and customizable, enabling you to pick up and put down your knitting with ease. You can knit this shawl as large or as small as you like. This knit is calm, steady, reassuring, and warm.
Project Pages
“Endometriosis Shawl” is also meant to raise awareness and provide access to important resources. I encourage you to name your project by your city (for instance my project page is named “Vancouver Endo Shawl”) and to list local resources under “notes” on your page. In this way, others can find search for resources and support near to their areas through the listed projects. I added this in the hopes that those who are suffering from painful and dangerous symptoms will be able to navigate the medical system as quickly as possible and to limit the damage to their body and their life.
Knowledge is Power.
Roughly 176 million women around the world suffer from endometriosis. It often takes years to get a diagnosis, and serious symptoms are frequently ignored and misunderstood by medical professionals. This life-long disease has no cure and carries many series complications.
Errata:
Row 1: K1, YO, K1, YO, K1
Written instructions for the more challenging edging:
Row 20 should read K4, p13, K4
I have just added a helpful document shared with my by KristieSharp (thanks, Kristen!) with the stitch count by garter stitch rows. It shows the row number (odd rows only), stitch count, garter row count, and multiples of 21 (for the final edging chart).
