Inspired by the curves of orchid leaves against the beams of a domed greenhouse, lace flows into twisted rib in both the Ensata scarf and cowl.
Construction
The scarf is worked flat from end to end. The cowl is worked circularly from the bottom up.
Finished Dimensions
- Scarf: 15½“ [39.5cm] wide; 68” [172.5cm] long
- Cowl: 26¾“ [68 cm] circumference; 12” [30.5 cm] height

Gauge
- 27 stitches & 30 rows/rounds = 4” in Half Twisted Ribbing and Ensata Chart pattern, after blocking
Note: Gauge for this project changes considerably after blocking; please block your swatch prior to measuring to ensure correct sizing.
Needles
Fingering Weight Scarf
- One pair of straight needles or a 32” circular needle*, in size needed to obtain gauge listed
- Suggested Size: 3.5 mm (US 4)
Fingering Weight Cowl
- One 16” circular needle**, in size needed to obtain gauge listed
- Suggested Size: 3.5 mm (US 4)
Laceweight Scarf
- One pair of straight needles or a 32” circular needle* in size needed to obtain gauge listed
- Suggested Size: 3.75 mm (US 5)
*Knitter’s preferred style of needle may be used when working flat.
**A 32” circular needle can be used instead of a 16” circular if using the Magic Loop method for working small circumferences in the round.
