Entrelac Basket Weave Blanket
The Amazing Entrelac Basket Weave Blanket is a diagonal checkerboard or diamond pattern with squares knit in opposing directions, which gives a basket weave look. This is not a quilt! These square are not sewn together afterward. Entrelac is a knitting technique that isachieved by knitting with a continuous strand of yarn. You will knit one string of horizontal squares at a time. This can be done with one colour, as in the photos, or if you choose, you can change colours for each row (there are lots of inspiring photo ideas if you google ‘Entrelac’).
NOTE: THE 1st AND 3rd PICTURES ARE FROM A CUSTOM BLANKET USING TWO COLOURS OF RED HEART LOOP-IT YARN IN A HARLEQUIN PATTERN, WITH 2 ADDITIONAL ROWS ADDED TO THE ORIGINAL PATTERN.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate.
SUGGESTED MATERIALS: 4 balls of Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ Yarn (6.4oz, 180g) (Image shown is the colour ‘Bright Blue’).
SUGGESTED TOOLS: No needles required (finger knitting). Scissors.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Approx. 36” by 40” (91.5 cm by 101.5 cm).
PLEASE NOTE: This pattern will work with any brand of loop yarn, but keep in mind that the size of the loops, and size of the balls/skeins of each brand is different.
Lion Brand Off-The-Hook, Lion Brand Crayola Off-The-Hook, Red Heart Loop-It, and Alize Puffy (European) yarns can all be used with this pattern, but will yield a blanket with smaller overall dimensions. You will also need more balls/skeins to complete the pattern as is (2-3 balls).
