These elbow length fingerless gloves are knit in the round, from the hand up the arm to the bind off. This permits the knitter to decide how long to make them. Yardage estimates are for the full 7 repeats of the main pattern, which yields a mitt approximately 14 inches in length. Pattern is both charted and written - intermediate level.

Due to the nature of the pattern, I recommend using a yarn with some grab to it. The gauntlets can be done on double points or magic loop, with magic loop the preferred option - NOT SUITED FOR TWO AT A TIME. Either way, you will need double points for knitting the thumbs.

I wanted the gloves to have a “Runic” look to them; feminine, while still being utilitarian enough to wear while riding with the Rohirrim. I chose Bavarian Twisted Stitch patterns for their intricacy and beauty, while the rustic yarn and camouflage color speak to the practical nature of the horse loving people of Rohan. While you will likely never wear them into battle (or even riding) I hope they are a lovely addition to your wardrobe.
