When you have a really beautiful yarn it is important to let it shine. We designed this shawl pattern for such a yarn. The yarn in questioned was dyed by hand by Olann, It is brimming with gorgeous subtleties and lots of cascading colour. Fanciful stitch work would only fight with such a complex colour concoction, so we kept this design simple, but not so simple that it is a snooze to knit.
Stocking stitch is broken up with purl ridges which shows off the construction of this shawl but also provides texture. This linear scheme is then disrupted at the border where horizontals change to vertical elements, and stocking stitch gives way to garter stitch. This project has enough repetition to take on your commute or on your knitting date with your chums, but will vary enough to spur you on. The Equinox shawl is a big one that takes advantage of the superior yardage available on each skein of Olann Sock Lite but it is also easy to adjust to a smaller scale (see note in pattern). This fingering weight merino yarn is light enough to be worn in Spring so pick a colour that reminds you to stop and smell the flowers.

Materials: 3 mm circular needles 80-100 cm long
800m light fingering weight yarn. We used Olann Sock Lite yarn, 80% merino 20% nylon, 425m shown  in a custom colour called Hatchling made for The Knit Cafe’s Yarn Club 2018.
