Escapism
Escapism is a slipped-stitch colourwork sock pattern worked top-down with a patterned fleegle heel. The effect you see is created by working in single row stripes with two colours of yarn, and slipping certain stitches only on the even rows. This technique is similar to mosaic colourwork, except only one colour of yarn is ever slipped.
Because the original design for these socks was written for a large size, the zigzag motif on the sides had to be removed in order to create smaller sizes. The small and medium size socks include the same main cable pattern down the front and back, and the same detail on the heel as the original pattern. For an XL size, knit columns can be easily added between chart panels.
This pattern requires 2 colours of yarn (the higher the contrast between colours the better the results)
Main colour (MC - shown in white on sample pair) approx. 275-300 yards
Contrast colour (CC - shown in Paton’s Purple Haze colourway) approx. 175-200yds
Thank you to my sock testers for your efforts!
