Estonian Lace Stole
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A CHARTED DESIGN.
The design of this stole came about because some people who had admired the Estonian Lace Christening Shawl had a preference for a rectangular stole rather than the square of the Christening Shawl.
The Estonian Lace Stole is worked by first knitting the centre flat and then picking up stitches and working in the round for the border and edging. A 120cm length circular needle will hold all of the stitches comfortably. Other requisites are a cable needle for the centre pattern and a crochet hook for the provisional cast on.
The nupps are bold and generous and emphasise the motifs perfectly. For those who have a fear of nupps, details are included in the pattern of two easier than standard methods to make the nupps.
The size of the shawl when worked to gauge is 84” x 27” and this stole would also work very well as a table runner.
There is a Ravelry group for people interested in knitting the Estonian Lace Stole and/or the Estonian Lace Christening Shawl. The group is useful for questions about the patterns and the techniques used, sharing experiences and showing off shawls/stoles in progress and completion. It is an open-ended KAL, so people can join and cast on whenever they wish!
