FEATURES - Top-down construction, Estonian stranded stitch patterns, Kihnu braid, full gusset, EOP heel flap, and Weldon’s 4-point star toe
SIZE - S (M); Small ball of foot ~ 8” (20 cm); medium ~9” (23 cm); leg total stitches 64,60 (72); foot total stitches 55 (63). Leg restricted stretch; foot generous stretch.
MEASUREMENTS finished size M: Foot length 9” (23 cm) - Leg length from bottom of heel to top of cuff 8.5” (22 cm); 1⁄2 heel diagonal 4 1⁄2” (11.4 cm); 1⁄2 circumference ball of foot 3.5” (8.9 cm), 1/2 circumference leg 41/4” (10.8 cm)
MATERIALS
YARN - Plucky Knitter fingering weight 440 yd(402 m)/100 g. Total weight for pair of Medium socks with measurements as stated was ~80g. Exact yardage for individual colors is not provided; however, recommended yarn weight estimate for instep is ~30g, for background leg ~20g, and for heel and toe ~20g.
NEEDLE - 2.25 and 2.5 mm circular needle. Pattern written for Magic Loop Method, but can be worked with 2 circular needles or double-points.
OTHER - stiff ruler, 1 open stitch marker.
GAUGE -
Stranded in round
-2.5 mm needle: 8.25 sts/inch (32.5 sts per 10 cm);
-2.25 mm needle: 9 sts/inch (35.4 sts per 10 cm)
Stockinette in round
-2.25 mm needle: 9 sts/inch (35.4 cm per 10 cm); 12 rounds/inch (47.2 rounds per 10 cm )
Barley Corn instep pattern in round
-2.25 mm needle: 9.5 sts/inch (37 sts per 10 cm)
DIFFICULTY - assumes experience with 2-color stranded knitting, chart reading, and adjusting total stitch counts for full pattern repeats
