The squirrel hand puppet is clearly shown in several colour photographs in the book. In common with many of the puppets depicted, it has only the most general of instructions, but working from the schematic and photo tutorial for the rabbit hand puppet, using ears similar to the fox or pig, and adding a tail will yield a squirrel.

The puppet requires about 25 grams/ 105 metres of a main colour in fingering weight, smaller amounts of contrast colours of the knitter’s choice, and yarn for the tail. The designer knit a loop stitch pattern, and the tail probably required about 105 metres, but eyelash or similar textured yarn could be used.

Casting on 80 sts and working at a gauge of 8 sts to the inch on 2.5 mm double pointed needles, or size required to achieve this gauge, will result in a 10 inch circumference puppet.
