Estonian Trellis is a wedge-shaped shawl, knit all in one piece, incorporating a number of different lace patterns. It was made as an experiment to use traditional lace designs with a more contemporary shawl shape and I hope you like it as much as I do.

The shawl is bordered by three edges with Estonian lace designs, including nupps, while the shaping for the shawl is done inside these edges.

Both charted and written instructions are included in this pattern and all wrong side rows of the lace are purled. My shawl blocked to approximately 46cm/18” deep and 112cm/44” long, however the final size will vary according to your own choice of yarn and needle, as well as your knitting tension. This one a one skein project, and I know I may make larger versions in the future.

I used a light fingering yarn with good stitch definition to show off the lace.

The Shawl starts at the left border, and continues with shaping inside the two border diamond lace designs along the top and right sides. Additionally, there are three vertical lace trellis patterns used inside the shawl and also three horizontal patterns. Stocking stitch panels separate the areas of lace and stitch markers are used to separate the designs.
