Ethne Rose- a knitted doll
Ethne Rose is my first attempt at a knitted doll. I started knitting her, firstly top down in the round- but that didn’t work :( Then from the feet up, in the round also- that didn’t work either :( Then I tried knitting her flat. First her legs were like thin sausages :( Then they were to fat, and shapeless :( I put her aside for quite a while and gave her some serious thought… and finally she started to come together!! I gave her ankles and wrists, knees and elbows, a waist and a bust. Her arms are inset, to give her shoulders. Her head took several attempts to get the right size and shape :) Her hair took some time too. You can use your preferred method for her hair, but I made knitted spiral curls. She’s a generous size. 26” long, 11” round her head, 9” bust, 7” waist and 14” inside leg. I used 20mm eyes for the ‘big eyed’ look, but if you want a more proportional look then 10mm might be better.
Now I am knitting her some lace underwear. She is wearing the cami knickers ( seen here in the 3rd picture ) and I am working on the cami top, chemise, ‘teddy’ and stockings and I will put them on Ravelry as soon as they are finished.
I hope you like her and enjoy knitting her, if you have any problems, let me know xx
Feb 16th I have just added a 7th and 8th picture. This is my ‘Esther May’ project from my Ethne Rose pattern and she is for my step-daughter’s birthday. I have given ‘Esther May’ amber eyes and russet hair. I have also taken pictures as I have knitted her ( in projects ) so you could look at these if you need any clarification for your own doll
