Étoile Blanket
This blanket was designed to be a unique wedding gift, originally knit in a richly textured grey variegated yarn (Plymouth Yarn Mushishi). The second version was knit in Spud & Chloë Sweater with eccentric striping to correspond with fabric shapes for sewn accent pillows created by a second crafty friend for another wedding. I look forward to knitting this again and again, in soft yarns for children and babies, and in special yarns for adult gifts.
Shown here in different yarns, the Étoile Blanket is an uncomplicated accent piece that you can easily modify to incorporate contrasting stripes, different shades of the same yarn, or a single yarn that has enough character of its own to carry the design.
Size is not critical, and you could plan the design to be larger or smaller (add or subtract rows), or change the yarn and needle size to alter the dimensions of the finished piece. The key thing is the proportions. This blanket takes advantage of the fact that knit stitches are longer than they are wide to create a diamond rather than square shape.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Finished measurements will vary according to your yarn and gauge! The large finished blankets pictured with this pattern each measured about 5 feet across, but given the unusual shape this is an approximate size.
