Evelyn Shawl
The Evelyn Shawl prototype was made using a 4.00 mm hook and one skein (398 yards) of fingering weight Alpaca and Nylon yarn from Sunshine Queen Fiber Arts. It measures about 45 inches wide and 22.5 inches long (from tip to base). It is bigger than a shawlette, and makes for a perfect one-skein project.
For an oversized shawl, I recommend making this a two-skein project, or using 600 yards of yarn or more. The size is perfectly customizable to your liking since the pattern follows a two-row repeat.
I recommend using a fingering weight yarn, but a slightly thicker yarn will work nicely as well. And for warmer climates, it can easily be made using a fine cotton.
This pattern is confident beginner level. You are expected to know how to make a magic circle, a chain, an SC and a DC. If you don’t, video tutorials of these stitches are easily found online. All other stitches are explained in the pattern’s Stitch Tutorial.
