An event horizon is the boundary that marks the outer edge of a black hole. It is the point at which nothing, not even light, can escape. This cowl pattern is an homage to my childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. I was completely obsessed with space when I was younger and spent several years as the president of the Young Astronauts Club, not to mention attending space camp at Kennedy Space Center. One of the most fascinating things about this field of study, for me, are the endless unknowns. Most of what we believe is not observable, only theoretical, which allows us to use our imaginations in limitless quantity. This is something that almost never happens anywhere else in the world of science, and while I didn’t end up making it onto a rocket or behind the desk at ground control, I can always look up at the stars and wonder.

In true TSW fashion, the construction of Event Horizon is up, down, and all around! The main body of the cowl is knit flat and then seamed together at the back. The collar and lace are added in the round afterwards. I won’t reveal all the techniques for how the holes are created, but it’s deceptively simple and suited to many skill levels.

Have some long forgotten skeins in your stash? This is a great pattern for digging them back out!
