Pattern is a development in my exploration with this latticed V Stitch. It is a 4 row repeat, alternating rows of single crochet with one of two open stitch designs.
Originally designed specifically for Squares Dancing in Harmony afghan pattern but adapts well to scarf and stole applications. Instructions included for afghan block, scarf and stole with border. Border worked in the round.
Special thanks to user oneliness for the audacity to go their own way with the pattern which inspired me to generate scarf and stole instructions and design an accompanying border in my 2021 pattern update! Thank you, oneliness!!
Yarns and hooks listed are a list of suggestions, details below in Samples list.
Samples
Red afghan square was worked with Lion Brand Jiffy (back when it was bulky)and a 6.5mm hook.
Blue scarf was worked with aran weight yarns (unraveled from sweaters) and a 6mm hook.
Stole was worked with aran weight yarns (unraveled from sweaters) held double and a 10mm hook.
Yardage/Meterage, approximate
Square: 50 yds/45 m
Scarf: 300 yds/275 m MC + 81 yds/75 m CC for border
Stole: 600 yds/545 m MC + 102 yds/93 m CC for border
Finished square may be a little taller and narrower than a square, but it has plenty of room to bloom into a perfect square.
Full Disclosure
I put on my pants just like everyone else: in GIMP. When modeling the stole, I thought, “I don’t need pants, this thing doesn’t go below my waist…” as it turned out, it did indeed go below my waist, but by the time I had pants on (3 minutes later) the light wasn’t as good anymore, so I used the photo and image editing program GIMP to take the pants from one photo and add them to the pantsless, well-lit photo. It’s my first foray into “photoshopping,” and I think it’s pretty good for a rookie. The photo appears in the pattern .pdf
Chart made using Chet, available for free here: chetapp.weebly.com Color blocks were added in GIMP.
