I designed this hat for my niece’s trek to Everest Base Camp. It features an image of the mountain and the words ‘Everest base camp 176000 feet’.
I lined it with fleece (actually with a ready made thin fleece hat) and it kept her warm all the way.
The hat is knitted flat using fair isle/ stranded knitting. It has a seam up the back.
It is knitted on 3.5mm needles (for an average sized adult head) and takes one 100g ball of the main colour and small balls of the two contrast colours, which should be light and dark shades of the same colour.
The pattern includes written instructions for casting on, ribbing and shaping, a chart of the whole design and an enlarged version of the upper section.
