Thinking about making your first ever pair of crochet socks? Look no further – this simple design is ideal for novice crocheters. You’ll find plenty of photographs and detailed instructions to assist you with the trickier parts.

Perfect for padding about indoors all winter, these make such a good gift for yourself, your bestie or your significant other.

This pattern is very easy to adapt to any foot size; simply increase the toe until it is the correct width; and crochet to the appropriate length.

The recommended yarn comes in a 100g skein; and this is sufficient for a pair of socks in a UK size 7 (which is the size of the socks photographed). The smaller the feet, the less yarn is used in the main part of the socks; and therefore, the longer the socks can be. You can opt to use a contrasting colour for the toes and/or heels and/or cuffs; to allow your main colour to go a little further.

You will need:

  • 3mm crochet hook
  • 100-150g hardwearing 4-ply yarn (I like to use my own Happy Feet base from Indie Yarn Club – it has a “high twist” construction for extra strength without nylon)
  • stitch marker
  • scissors and darning needle, to finish
