Everyday Play
Top-down, raglan construction using self-striping or other yarn for 18” doll, such as American Girl, Madame Alexander Play Doll, etc. Instructions for both knitting in-the-round and flat are included. The pattern now includes directions for making the dress fit 19” dolls, such as Götz Happy Kidz or Hannah by going down a needle size and adding 18 rows/rounds to the length of the skirt.
Self-striping yarn works better when the dress is knitted in the round. It doesn’t show much at the placket, but below the placket the stripes won’t necessarily match up. By switching to working in the round right after the placket, there is no noticeable jog in the stripes. This could be knit flat with a plain or less-obvious stripe or the stripes could be made with two different yarns and then sewn up the back. Working in the round requires alternating between K and P rounds to get the garter st borders. If knitted flat, the sleeve is worked before the body is joined.
