There isn’t a law that states tag blankets have to be sewn. So, why not knit one? Evie’s tag blanket boasts the same design features as a sewn one: two layers of material, a different pattern on each side, and tags (ribbons) tucked in between the layers.

The two layers of material are formed by double knitting the blanket. The different patterns are created by ignoring the standard way to double knit and inserting purl stitches on sides being showcased. (Typically, the purl stitches are hid in between the layers).

On the front side of Evie’s tag blanket, the border is knit in a variegated yarn. The center square features two X’s and two O’s (kisses and hugs) in bright blue. On the back side, a bright blue border surrounds a plain center square knit in the variegated yarn.

Both sides of the blanket are knit at the same time. The only finishing step required after binding off is the attaching of the tags.

This tag blanket pattern is named after my friend’s baby daughter Evie, since it was her fascination with taggies that inspired this pattern.
