Evil Eye - Overlay Mosaic Crochet Square
The Evil Eye is an idea that goes back thousands of years, and people would create these blue-eyed amulets & decor to protect against their curse. Of course now-days, we see these in costume jewelry and other home decor as a fun bohemian vibe..
This pattern is for an overlay mosaic crochet square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.
This pattern includes a color-coded chart with all of the X’s marked, as well as full written instructions and links to general instructional videos.
Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.
This project can be done in 4 colors like the main image, or just 2 colors if desired (see other images)
This is a great way to use up scraps! For projects using all 4 colors of medium weight #4 yarn & a 5.5mm hook, you will need approximately 2 oz of the background color, 1 oz of the white & light blue eye colors, and 2 oz of the black outline colors. For projects using just 2 colors (like the blue & gold examples), you only need approximately 2 oz of each color.
Pattern is in US crochet terms.
