Exordium means “the beginning of anything.” So, I thought it was a fitting name for my first pattern release.

Exordium starts with just two stitches and grows into an asymmetrical triangle that drapes perfectly when wrapped around your neck and shoulders.

Sections of relaxing garter stitch are paired with stripes and lace sections to keep things interesting.

Your favorite speckled and variegated fingering weight yarns will work especially well with this design. Choose two colors with a lot of contrast or two colors that blend together – both options will be beautiful.

Color: For my original sample I used 2 skeins of Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles. 1 in the colorway Pheasant and 1 in the colorway Salty Tales.

A Note About Gauge and Sizing: Gauge is not critical with this shawl. As long as you like the fabric you are getting and have enough yarn it will be beautiful. With my size 5 needles and fingering yarn I was able to get a fabric that draped very nicely after blocking but wasn’t too loose. And with each of my 3 samples I had a little bit of each 400yd skein left over at the end. My shawls were all between 70” and 72” across the wingspan and 27” at their deepest point.
