This front-zippered men’s vest is created using a reversible, textured, yet easy-to-work pattern stitch, the fluted rib. The stitch creates softly rounded columns (resembling a quilted channel) on one side (Side 1) and a knit rib on a bed of seed stitches on the reverse side (Side 2). Color blocks at the waist and upper chest are created by alternating two rows of accent and main colors. Seamless construction makes this a quick project, great for creating that extra layer of warmth.
The vest is knit flat from the bottom up in one piece. A mandarin collar, worked in a 2x2 rib, is picked up around the neck edge. The fluted rib pattern does not roll, so additional treatment of the bottom and armscye edges is not necessary. A reversible, separating zipper is easily sewn into a knit placket to secure the front opening.
Required Skills
