Expedition Toque
The knit pattern for the Expedition Toque was inspired by winter adventures in the Rocky Mountains and was designed to be a quick and easy pattern to work up. The design motif in this pattern allows for playful color work using solid or multicoloured yarn.
The hat is advanced beginner friendly (must know how to do stranded colorwork), is worked bottom up in the round and has been designed to fit average adult women. The pattern includes detailed instructions with a full graphed diagram to follow along with the written pattern.
The pattern requires 2 balls of Lion Brand Yarns Wool Ease Thick & Quick (a main color for the body of the hat and a contrast color for the design motif) and 16” circular knitting needles: US 10(6.0mm) for the band and US11(8.0mm) for the body of the hat.
Other yarns that have been used/tested with this pattern are Loops & Threads Cozy Wool and Loops & Threads Eco-Luxe (both available from Michaels) however; when using these yarns (or equivalent) with the pattern, it is necessary to adjust the sizing of the needles to get similar sizing for the pattern as when using the Thick & Quick yarn. Make adjustments as follows: use US10.5(6.50mm) for the band and US13(9.0mm) for the body of the hat. The gauge will work out to be 3 knit stitches in 3.25 rows for a 1”x1” knit stitch section.
Thank you for your interest in the Expedition Toque knitted pattern, I hope you enjoy working with it!
