This shawl was released as part of the #titsoutcollective. The blog post that inspired the original iconic colorway from Countess Ablaze struck a chord. Artists and creatives are often approached with the offer of exposure, and women in particular can face backlash if they say no. Until the bank and groceries start taking exposurebucks, exposure doesn’t work as compensation.

Cross-promotion can be fabulous and an important part of marketing, but while a request for exposure is entirely focused on what the other brand gets, a request for collaboration will also include what they’re offering. There’s an understanding that the request might not be a fit, and that’s okay, but also a cross-promo request will almost always meet the following criteria:

• It’s for a limited amount of product
• It has a clearly defined benefit beyond “people will see the freebie and dig up your info”
• It shows respect for the other person, their business, skills, time, etc

This shawl pattern goes out to all my fellow creatives who’ve faced requests for exposure and/or who’ve had to face backlash when they say no. You’re awesome and your product is worth it!

Sample used Witch Candy 100% SW Merino DK (DK weight; 100% sw merino; 231yds/100g), 460yds/200g in Witch’s Tit to make a large shawl

Yarn, Yardage, and Colors
The sample is shown in a DK weight, but it does well in anything from a lace to a super bulky. It’s super adjustable - if you’re working with a different weight, you can customize the side of the teeth and the spacing between.

It pairs well with any color style, from variegated to gradient.

The sample was made with 460yds/200g, but the shawl can be hooked to size to work with any yardage.

Size
Size can be customized by working extra/fewer repeats. When gauge is met, a small shawl with 230yds/210m/100g measures 35”/89cm across and 12”/30.5cm down the back. A large shawl with 460yds/420m/200g measures 53”/135cm across and 18”/46cm down the back.

Construction
The pattern is a triangle worked side-to-side. It starts small and increases steadily along one side of the shawl.

Customizations
Notes are included for adjusting the following: working more/fewer repeats to make the shawl larger/smaller; working the shawl without sawteeth; making the teeth further apart or closer together; making the teeth larger/smaller

Overview of the Finished Object
The Exposure Shawl is an asymmetrical triangle with a sawtooth edging. The teeth are set at a fairly wide distance apart and are fairly small. The shawl features rows of solid stitches interspersed with rows of lacier stitches.
