Extra Large Knitted Kippah
Extra Large Knitted Kippah by Heidi Rotberg
A friend asked me to modify the Kippah to make it larger. Here’s the larger version.
This is a fast, easy kippah knit in the round using both a 16” circular needle and a 40” circular needle for Magic Loop. It makes a kippah about 6.5” in diameter. I find it easier to start on the 16” circular needle and then switch to Magic Loop, but you can do the whole kippah using Magic Loop if you prefer. It can be knit in Fingering or Sock yarn. Great project to use up small amounts of scrap yarn. Gauge isn’t important.
Materials:
Yarn of your choice: Fingering or sock yarn.. US #2 circular needle in both 16” and 40” lengths Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
Abbreviations:
K: Knit
P: Purl
K2 tog: Knit 2 stitches together
* Repeat instructions* to the end of the round
Instructions:
Cast on 128 stitches with the 16” circular needle using your preferred cast on, and carefully join in the round without twisting. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round. You will slip the marker every round.
Change to Magic Loop when your stitches feel snug on the 16” needle.

You should now have 8 stitches on your needle. Cut your yarn leaving a 8-10” tail. Using a tapestry needle, thread this yarn carefully through the 8 remaining stitches. Once you have secured those 8 stitches, remove your needles and insert the tapestry needle through the center of the kippah to the wrong side. Pull the yarn tight and cinch the center closed. Weave in the ends and block. Enjoy your kippah!
