Extraterrestrial Queen Cowl
Feeling spooky? Want a cowl that lets you feel like the baddest bitch in space? This is the cowl for you!
Knit bottom-up in the round, this cowl features two panels of cabling, one in front and the other in back, each surrounded by ‘ridges’ of twist stitches and textured sides. The back panel expands into a ‘crown’ 2/3 of the way through the pattern, creating a crown fit for a (certain kind of) queen!
This pattern contains both written and charted instructions.
You will need 17 stitch markers, a tapestry needle, a size 6 cabling needle or DPN, and a size 6 us (4mm) circular (24 or 32 inch/60 or 80 cm) needles
I’ve only written this in one size, but you can adjust your final circumference by adjusting how many sts you cast on (I have you cast on 60 per side, you could easily reduce this for a shorter cowl).
I used about 2 1/3 skeins of Shibui Knits Haven in Graphite (160 yards/skein), or ~370 yards of DK-weight yarn.
Any DK-weight yarn WITH SUFFICIENT STITCH DEFINITION should work fine. The most important attribute of the yarn for this pattern is stitch definition, so I would recommend looking for at least a double or triple ply yarn (Haven is 7-ply). I selected Haven in Graphite for the color + stitch definition, but plenty of other yarns should work as well.
The gauge isn’t critical for this pattern, so this will likely knit up ok in a worsted or bulky weight yarn as well (for that EXTRA DRAMA), but I haven’t tested that, so YMMV.
