24 December 2010 The Eyelet Rib Beret has been updated, using Paton’s Classic Wool - a lighter worsted yarn than the Brown Sheep’s Lamb’s Pride. Directions for the original beret have been improved (I hope), along with stitch count. Additionally, a more traditionally shaped beret has been included in the pattern, along with directions for a slouch version in the same Classic Wool yarn. I used the Aran Tweed, which is oatmeal in color with blue flecks.

The hats made in Classic Wool call for size 6 and size 7 needles, in circulars and double points. Stitch count remains the same, except when variations are done.

21 December 2010 - I’m updating the pattern with some new shaping and clearer directions, as well as using a different worsted weight yarn - Lamb’s Pride is a bit of a bulkier worsted yarn than what I am now doing. Hopefully it will be done in a few days! In the meantime … if you want to use the pattern as is, you can accomplish it with a lighter worsted weight yarn, such as Paton’s Wool.

This simple beret knits up quickly and easily, using less than one skein of Lamb’s Pride worsted weight yarn.

The eyelet rib provides visual and knitting interest, as well as a stretchy hat that can accommodate your hair when you just don’t know what to do with it! Tuck it up and pile it into this attractive hat.

Recommended for beginning lace knitters who want to work with a pattern containing a couple of yarn-overs in a seven-stitch, four-row repeat.
