As a big fan of long self-striping yarn, short rows & asymmetrical designs, I was inspired to create the EYES ON “U” shawl.

Knitting the “Eyes” shawl is never boring even though it’s entirely done in Garter Stitch. The eyelet border throughout, the various sizes of short row Eyes and the surprisingly unique color variations keeps your interest peeked at all times.

The majority of these shawls projects have been made with Urth’s Uneek & Harvest fingering yarns, but many other long-striping yarns will give you a similar effect.

In order to create a size large enough to wear comfortably, I have used 2 full skeins of Uneek and almost a 1/2 a skein of Harvest for the Eyes.

As shown in the bottom picture, because there are 8 Eyes in this pattern, you have the option of using as many as 8 different accent or “popping” solid colors to create the Eyes - your call.

It is important that you follow the Eye count correctly, but don’t worry if your total stitch count in the row is off by a couple of stitches - not being a “purest” myself, a stitch or two won’t make a big difference in the end.
