CONSTRUCTION:

This garment is knit seamlessly from the bottom up. The skirt is worked in the round to the underarms, then the front and the back are worked flat and assembled using a three-needle bind off. Stitches are picked up at the armholes to create cap sleeves, which are shaped using German short rows.
Please note that the back neckline of the dress is lower than the front, which means it can be easily slipped on without the need for closures. While two garment lengths are suggested - a long top (tunic) length and a dress length - length adjustments can easily be made .

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, working a three-needle bind off, picking up stitches, German short rows (detailed instructions and links to tutorials provided), binding off.

SIZES:

3mo (6mo, 12mo, 18mo // 2yo, 4yo, 6yo, 8yo, 10yo)

To fit chest: 16 (17, 18, 19 // 21, 23, 25, 26.5, 28) inches or 40.5 (43, 45.5, 48.5 // 53.5, 58.5, 63.5, 67.5, 71) cm

Garment chest circumference: 16.75 (17.75, 18.75, 19.75 // 21.75, 23.75, 25.75, 27.5, 28.75) inches or 42.5 (45, 47.5, 50, // 55, 60.5, 65.5, 70, 73) cm

In general, it’s best to select the size based on the recipient’s actual chest measurement instead of the age label. You can also choose a size according to how much ease you’d like the garment to have.

YARN REQUIREMENTS:

Top version: Approximately 275 (325, 350, 400 // 450, 550, 650, 750, 850) yards or 251 (297, 320, 366 // 411, 503, 594, 686, 777) meters of sport weight yarn.

Dress version: Approximately 325 (375, 400, 450 // 500, 600, 750, 900, 1000) yards or 297 (343, 366, 411 // 457, 549, 686, 823, 914) meters of sport weight yarn.

Size 12mo sample (dress version) is knit in Landlust Sommerseide 50% silk, 50% cotton) by Lana Grossa in the colorway 045. Please note that this yarn isn’t superwash. Any yarn of the same weight can be substituted, provided recommended gauge is matched.

NEEDLES:

• US 4 or 3.5 mm diameter circular needle (or size needed to match stockinette stitch gauge). Length: 16-inch or 40 cm for sizes 3mo to 4yo, and 24-inch or 60 cm for sizes 6yo and up)

• matching double-pointed needles for sleeves (or a long circular needle if using the magic loop technique).

NOTIONS:

• 2 stitch markers
• tapestry needle
• 3 pieces of scrap yarn or stitch holders

GAUGE:

24 sts x 30 rounds = 4 inches or 10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round, after blocking.

Please adjust needle size if needed to achieve the recommended gauge
