Felted vests and jackets may be made on any gauge and brand of flat bed knitting machine. These designs are knitted sideways at a very loose gauge and felted to fit. Finished chest sizes from 20-60 are included in the pattern. These will fit new babies to XL adults. Collar and hood are optional. Bulky machines use worsted weight yarn. Standard and mid-gauge machines use sport weight yarn. Standard machines will work the pattern using every other needle. Any UNTREATED 100% wool yarn may be used. Superwash or similar treatments will prevent
felting. 1000-3024 yards of worsted weight yarn. 1648-4944 yards of sport weight yarn. Felted gauge for the worsted weight version is about 3.75 stitches/6.75 rows/inch. For the sport weight version it is about 5.75 stitches/8.9 rows/inch. Precise gauge will vary with degree of felting.
