While editing podcasts, I often use the Fade In effect. It’s a great way to meld two pieces together. It is very rare that a soft, warm yarn is also hard wearing or vice versa, but why not bring them together and use each yarn to its advantage?

You can pair a luxury yarn, of which you can afford little yardage, with a more affordable yarn that will extend your use. Pair yarns that you feel may not hold up to a project like hard worn mittens with a more sturdy yarn that will become the fingers and thumbs. This pattern is a great way to use up scraps as well.

The pattern is knit from the cuff to the fingers and uses a traditional thumb gusset.
