Fade Your Scraps
For this pattern you can use scrap yarn, a color changing yarn, or a solid color yarn, that is either fingering, Sport or DK weight. You will need a total of about 800 yards (200 grams) for the wrap, and about 8-12 colors.
The pattern includes a tutorial for changing yarn and carrying an unused yarn color up the side edge for the next stripe or solid section.
The color fade technique is popular in knitting and crochet right now and works great for scrap yarn. I save my leftover yarn in plastic bags sorted by yarn weight and color. Then, I love to do a sort of “color mash up” crochet or knit project.
For this wrap you can use your scraps and you can decide how you want to blend your colors. Fade Your Scraps is a boomerang-shaped wrap that starts out with a dark color and slowly fades to lighter colors.
The wrap is crocheted starting with a few stitches, and the stopping point is determined by measuring the length of the long increase edge of the wrap, so you do not have to count rows or stitches. The stitch pattern is crocheted on the diagonal and is an easy two-row repeat. When you reach the stopping point you will crochet an accent row, then finish the wrap off with tassels.
With this easy stitch and row pattern you can really get creative with your colors! The pattern is written for fingering/sock weight yarn, but you can also use Sport or DK weight yarn.
So, find your scraps and have fun fading the colors into each other. Or, you can buy yarn and also fade one color into the next, you can crochet the wrap with a color changing yarn and get the same effect, or make the wrap with one solid color.
