Faerie Queen Socks
I designed this to have a strong Pre-Raphaelite and Arts & Crafts movement influence, combining detail with functionality.
I chose to use a slightly unusual construction twist, knitting the cuff of the sock flat then grafting it together to enable me to include rich swathes of leaves with clusters of buds all contained by an interlaced knotwork braid before the sock continues from the top down with a practical, well fitting heel and body ornamented with a column of leafy lace.
The result is a sock that is lavishly detailed, yet sensibly enough styled to work under shoes comfortably.
When planning your supplies for this, you will want to knit the cuff on needles one or two sizes smaller than you choose for the body of the sock. Because there is no ribbing, the cuff is a little more open than most socks, making the smaller needle particularly essential if you have slim ankles.
Knit in one shade or use a contrast for cuff and toes,
