I used Debbie Bliss Luna 100% cashmere to knit this first baby’s hat for its softness and luxury, 4ply Alpaca or a baby cashmerino mix would also work well. The stranded motif is a 12 stitch pattern repeat and requires basic skills in stranded knitting. It is knitted as a newborn size but is very stretchy and may fit up until 6 months. Careful stitching of the rib provides an optional turn back.

The pattern is laid out for single pointed needles but the design can be adapted for double pointed or circular needles as indicated in the pattern.
