Fair Isle Blanket
The Fair Isle Blanket design is an intricately mixed colour-work pattern with solid colour centre.
SKILL LEVEL: Experienced/Advanced.
THIS IS AN ADVANCED LOOP YARN PATTERN. IT INVOLVES USING MULTIPLE COLOURS OF YARN AT THE SAME TIME, CUTTING AND WEAVING LOOPS, AS WELL AS DOUBLE KNITTING LOOPS. THERE ARE TECHNIQUES USED HERE THAT MAY BE NEW TO EVEN EXPERIENCED LOOP YARN KNITTERS.
SUGGESTED MATERIALS: 8 balls of Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ Yarn (6.4 oz/180g)
You may choose your own combination of 5 colours of yarn, but the image/sample shown (“Scandinavian Blues”) uses the following combination:
- 3 balls ‘Country Blue’
- 1 ball ‘Cream’
- 1 ball ‘Bright Red”
- 1 ball ‘White and Blue’ or ‘Powder Blue’
- 2 ball ’Bright Blue’
SUGGESTED TOOLS: No needles required (finger knitting). Scissors.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Approx. 54” by 50” (137 cm x 127 cm).
PLEASE NOTE: This pattern will work with any brand of loop yarn, but keep in mind that the size of the loops, and size of the balls/skeins of each brand is different. Do not combine brands of yarn when using this pattern: you must use all of one brand of yarn or the size difference will cause pulling and stretching in the rows.
Also note that because the size of the loops and balls/skeins of Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ yarn are larger, if you use a different brand, you may need additional balls/skeins to achieve the same effect and blanket size.
