Duplicate stitch adds another layer over your knitting, making the material bulkier and stiffer. Be sure to take that into account on your project.
These mittens are worked in the round from the cuff up.
You knit the mittens first and then stitch the motif onto it.
The three-color motif around the cuff uses the Fair Isle tradition
and added after knitting using Duplicate stitch, however they
could be added whilst knitting using the stranded colorwork method.

Written instructions, motives chart and motives placement chart are included. Also knitting techniques guide which explains all the techniques you need to know.
