Fair Isle Fun Cowl and Hat
The German version of this pattern can be found on the website from Lanade
Legend has it that the people of Fair Isle, a tiny island in the North Sea, once learned the famous, multicolored knitting technique from a few Spanish castaways. Later on, they brought it to perfection to make a living in this harsh environment: “The more you could knit, the more you could eat”. Today, the technique is known all over the world and a great fun knit. Hat and cowl add up to a perfect set in a thousand beautiful color combinations of the most tender Malabrigo Merino Worsted. Have fun!
Proposed yarns:
3 skeins Malabrigo Merino Worsted, one of each color; for example: — Set 1: 009, Polar Morn (color A); 044, Geranium (color B); 026, Continental Blue (color C)
— Set 2: 073, UVA (color A); 093, Fuchsia (color B); 022, Sauterne (color C)
On yarn quantities: If you want to knit the cowl and hat with the colors in the same order, you’ll need two skeins of color A.
If you want to use one skein of each, like us, then for the second piece you’ll need to be creative with your leftovers and see how far each color will get you.
