I am excited to bring you this 12 page pattern containing a complete guide of size, gauge, colour motifs and text for this written and charted Long Fair Isle, Kep/Scarf.

There are 10 Full colour charts, over 8 pages, showing clear motif and colour layout, ranging from a full page colour overview of the full pattern to additional pages of magnified, larger scale sections of the charts in order for you to see them easily.

Additional to the Fair Isle colour charts, there are written and photographic instructions and I have included a full Sanquhar alphabet and numbers 0-9 so that you may personalise your own work, with your own meaningful words, names or dates knitted into your hat so that you can make it your own.

This Fair Isle long Kep/ scarf, is a bright, fun, functional, practical, colourful, wearable long hat, designed using large traditional OXO and smaller peerie Fair Isle motifs to create a unique long hat.

My own expressive words knitted into my hat, are from individual text messages sent to me by my sister – KEEP SAFE… KEEP WARM… JUST KEEP GOING… Remember, you can add your own words to make it your own creative work by using the alphabet chart included here.
This pattern incorporates eleven traditional OXO Fair Isle motifs charted in 2 colourways each to form one long Fair Isle Kep/ Scarf.
It looks a difficult pattern but it is, in fact easy, using only 2 colours in each row.

Needles:-
2:5mm UK (no equivalent US size) circular for ribs – length from tip of needle to tip of needle - 40cm
3mm UK (3mm US) circular for body of kep - length from tip of needle to tip of 2nd needle 60cm
One set of 3mm Double pointed needles (dpns) for decreasing at end of kep when the knitting is too tight for a circular needle after the decreases.

Size of my Kep
22 inches / 56 cm circumference at rib around the head
120cm length or you can make it shorter.

Gauge using 3mm needle 35 rows and 33 stitches – over 10cm square
Gauge using 2:55mm needle – 42 rows and 36 stitches - over 10cm square

Yarn: - Jamieson’s of Shetland, Spindrift or ANY stash 4ply yarn that you have (use the same thickness of yarn if you are using many different types of yarn from your stash). If you choose your own yarn, use the needles that are appropriate for it and enjoy your own colour choices. If you want to use the same colours as I have, you need one ball of Spindrift in each of the following colours:- But JC Rennie would work too.

Amber, Apricot, Blossom, Blue Lovat, Burnt Ochre, Burnt Umber, Blue Lovat, Coffee, Cherry, Cosmos, Coral, Chartreuse, Cornfield, China Blue, Dusk, Dog Rose, Eesit, Eclipse, Gentian, Granny Smith, Jupiter, Lagoon, Lipstick, Loganberry, Lemon, Lilac, Lupin, Mocha, Mantilla, Maroon, Moorgrass, Mustard, Nighthawk, Oyster, Old Rose, Purple Heather, Peony, Peat, Port wine, Pot Pourri, Plum, Pumpkin, Peach, Purple Heather, Rose, Seabright, sorbet, Sky Sunrise, Teviot, Twilight Yellow Ochre, Yell Sound.
BUT, I really do suggest using your own stash and using up your own leftover colours. You don’t have to use as many as I did.

This hat is knitted in the round using circular needles, ending with Double pointed needles (DPN’s). this makes the pattern easy by only knitting. The seam is at the back of the work.

It is a fun, experimental pattern that is always eye catching.
