This hat and cowl combo is warm enough for ice fishing and has been cozy warm in as low as -45 degrees C. Both pieces are a relatively quick knit and make great high-quality gifts. The hat is knit double-stranded in the round using 2 balls main colour (dark grey heather), 1 ball dark contrasting colour (burgundy, divided), and 1 ball light contrasting colour (natural mix, divided). There are optional instructions for attaching flannel to add comfort around the ears.

The cowl is knit in the round with a single strand using 1 ball main light colour (natural mix), 1 ball main dark colour (dark grey heather), 1 partial ball contrasting colour (burgundy), and 1 partial ball contrasting colour (gold). The optional instructions explain how to line the cowl with flannel and create a pocket around the circumference of the cowl for adding a drawstring.
