Fairground Tank
The Fairground Tank is a sweet staple piece with several variations available, so you can customize it to your little one’s wardrobe. This pattern includes options for checkered print, solid, ruffle sleeves, and sleeveless. For the checkered version, you’ll need a main color (for body and edges/ sleeves) and a contrast color (for the remainder of the body). For the solid, you may use all one color or add a contrast color for the hem, neckline, and/ or sleeve edges.
Yarn requirements are listed for the checkered version with ruffle sleeves; if you’re making a solid tank, or a sleeveless tank, you’ll need slightly less than the given totals.
Sizes: 12 mo (2T, 4T, 6 youth, 8 youth)
Finished Chest Circumference: 20.5” (22.5”, 24.25”, 26”, 28”)
Finished Length (Hem to Underarm): 8” (8.5”, 9.5”, 10.5”, 12”)
Sizing note: The checkered style uses stranded knitting throughout, so the final fabric will not be as stretchy as typical stockinette fabric. Please keep this in mind when selecting a size (I recommend going up if between sizes).
Construction note: The body is knit in the round, from the hem up to the underarms. The
front and back panels are then separated and each is knit back and forth, with neck shaping on the
front panel. Sleeve edge is made by picking up stitches and knitting in the round, with ruffles knit back and forth afterwards. Neckline ribbing is picked up and knit in the round as well.
Materials:
Yarn: Fingering weight yarn, main color 250 (260, 350, 440, 500) yards and contrast color 180 (190, 250, 295, 355) yards.
Needles: US size 1 dpn or very small circular (for garter stitch edges) and US size 3 (for body) circular needles, or size needed to meet gauge.
Notions: Stitch markers, 4 stitch holders, needle for weaving in ends, and spare cable/ scrap yarn
Gauge: Approximately 30 stitches x 34 rows = 4” x 4” square, in stockinette stitch on larger needles
Abbreviations:
SKP: Slip the first stitch, knit the second, then pass the first over the second, creating a decrease.
K2Tog: Knit two stitches together, creating a decrease.
P2Tog: Purl two together, creating a decrease.
K1fb: Knit into the front and back loops of the next stitch, creating 1 stitch increase.
