This playful, feminine pullover in Shelter features an airy, flared skirt that visually narrows the hips. Traditional lace motifs leaven the classic gansey texture of cables and moss stitch. The body is worked in the round to the underarms; the upper front and back are knit flat. Exaggerated drop shoulders create an embellishment at the upper arm, and since the sleeves are worked downward, the braided cable appears to flow down to the cuff instead of climbing. Short-row gussets with fashioned decreases shape the upper shoulders and neckline.

Women wore their ganseys in an array of pretty colors, so don’t hesitate to try Fairweather in a pastel like Blanket Fort, Foothills or Tallow.

Construction

The body is worked circularly to the underarms, then divided to work the back and front separately. After joining the shoulders using Joinery Bind Off, the sleeves are picked up from the armhole edge and worked circularly from the top down. Shoulder gussets are worked from picked-up neck stitches to further shape the shoulders, before finishing the neckline with a garter band.

Suggested Size: 4 mm (US 6)

32” circular needle can be used instead of DPNs if using the Magic Loop method for working small circumferences in the round (e.g., Sleeves).
