Fairy Ring Socks
According to folklore, the rings of toadstools that grow in the grass are all that is left by morning of a moonlit dance of fairies and elves, protected within the ring from mortal eyes except for those who may be fool enough to try to watch. Legends tell tales of the fate that may befall any mortal who should enter the fairy ring. But it’s all just superstition, isn’t it. Are you brave enough to enter the fairy ring?
Worked toe-up using fingering weight yarn, the socks have two stranded colourwork rings of toadstools on the legs, either or both of which can be beaded for extra fairy sparkle, and the shadow of the last fairy dancing across the top of the foot in reverse stocking stitch.
The pattern uses up to 350 yards of the main colour of yarn but only around 50 yards of the red and around 10-15 yards of white.
You will need to know how to work in the round, work a provisional toe-up cast-on and work stranded colourwork in the Fair Isle style. If you wish to work with beads, you will also need to know how to add beads although a brief description is given in the pattern notes.
