Fairy Rings
reversible felted mitts

Yarn substitutions: any feltable yarn of a similar weight.
Although, if you want to follow my ethos of supporting native (sheep) breeds and local yarn producers, please look for yarns that are produced nearer home - this will save air miles and help the planet! :)

Size: varies during felting process - as the wool shrinks, the size will decrease. I have given different thumb-hole sizes, although the first size might just fit you. If in doubt, knit a ‘thumb swatch’ (a small rectangle with just the hole bit) and felt that, for which there should be enough wool. Or, you could just leave them unfeltd, and ruffle them only a little bit in very hot water just to fuse the fibres, but the fabric will have more drape and not be as dense.

Knitted in-the-round, keeping the yarn fairly loose and the tension relaxed (it probably won’t do you a lot of good to go down a needle size to achieve the tension!).

I knitted mine from two balls of wool, one of each colour, with some to spare.

Fairy Rings was inspired by the colours themselves, the dark, mossy green side-by-side with the pinky-beige, both heathered and changeable, which matched the ethereal and sometimes mercurial nature of the little spirits after whom these mitts are named. However, if you wish to use different colours or solid colours, do bear in mind the name…otherwise you might confuse the fairies! Mind you, there are lots of different types of fairy…
