This fake hornets nest is designed to repel hornets. Hornets are very territorial and I have read that if they see a nest within 200 feet they do not approach.
I spent many hours online looking at pictures of hornets nests so that I could mimic what they have built as close as possible.
I have one hung on our back porch, at my kids play set, and on the wall of our from porch. I have noticed that our daily wasp visitor has not been coming around.
I have made this with an opening to be able to stuff it with plastic grocery bags so that they can be removed and the nest can be washed. I absolutely love the look of this because you can manipulate the look of it however you wish.
There is a loop in the back and in the top, the loop in the back will weave through the stitches above it and close the opening.
The loop on the top can be pushed into the little hole on top so it can be hidden if you are hanging it from the back loop.
I wanted to give 2 options for hanging since some want to hang it from a plant hanger, and some want to hang it against the wall.
I found that hanging it on the wall with the top loop makes with crooked and poke out on the bottom so I wanted to correct that.
I purposefully made this pattern with a small hook. This gives you the opportunity to make many different sizes, using an H/5mm hook would make this large. I find this size is perfect for our front porch.
