Welcome to my 2023 mystery shawl KAL: Falderal. Falderal is nonsense, frippery, fancy…a less used and more antique spelling than folderol, and that suites my sense of whimsy perfectly, as I hope it does yours!
This is a triangle using two colors of sport or fingering weight yarn, 385 to 438 yards each. The PDF file download is currently a placeholder; the first clue will be released digitally on April 21, 2023. The KAL will have 5 clues total, each one week apart. One year after the KAL is over, your mystery pattern will update to the full pattern.
We will be knitting together in the @Romi’s Studio forum, and I will also be doing YouTube lives and meetups, as I know not everyone can access Ravelry! You will get a full schedule in the time leading up to the first clue drop. The YouTube lives will remain accessible as recordings. I hope you’ll join us in the fun!!!
Hints before the first clue:
-
Although Annapurna is listed as sport weight in the Ravelry database, I would say it is on the light side, and knits up like a fingering weight. Either sport or fingering weight will work. Floating and Rumor are fingering weight yarns.
-
I am using the Cosmos (light grey-purple with speckles of pink)/Thistle (deep purple with speckles of rust and magenta) colorway and starting with the lighter color.
-
Lightly speckled, tonal, or solid yarns will show the patterning best; the more variegated the yarn is, the less the patterning will show
-
Remember: do not substitute a yarn of which you have less than 385 yards.
I can’t wait to knit with you all! xox
